November 15, 2013

Hello Roderick Families,

Grade 6 students constructed a model of a plant cell using some fun ingredients.  Students were required to include all parts of a plant cell.

Informational packets were sent home this week detailing this year's Grade 6 Ski Club.  All paperwork needs to returned to school by Friday, November 22nd.  Please email Ms. Kathleen Maloney if you have any questions regarding the 2014 Grade 6 Ski Club.

Our special subject teachers met this week with Norfolk and Plainville.  The teachers met to discuss measuring student growth and understanding how it could be useful in giving teachers feedback about student learning.  Thank you to Dr. Martes and Dr. Neville for setting up these cross district subject-specific working groups.

On Friday, students in Miss Marazzi's class and Mrs. Poirier's class finished up their Properties of Matter Unit by making homemade ice cream. Students created their colorful ice cream using bags, ice and milk. The students discussed how temperature change causes liquids to turn into solids. They had a great time eating the ice cream too!

Parent/teacher conferences are just around the corner. Conferences are a wonderful time to check in with your child's teacher about their academic and social/emotional growth. Conference dates are set for Monday, November 25th (afternoon conferences) and Tuesday, November 26th (evening conferences). Both days are half days for the students with dismissal being held at 12:00 PM. Please note that report cards will be sent home on Friday, November 22nd.

Laprade Studios will be back at the Roderick School on Wednesday, November 20th for picture re-takes. October photos will be sent home toward the end of next week.  Students who were absent on the October photo day or those in need of a re-take can get their pictures taken. Please note: original picture packages must be returned. Mrs. Chambers has extra picture envelopes in the office if needed.

Please notify Mrs. Prew in the Health Office of any changes in your child’s health.  It is beneficial for the school nurse to be aware of head lice, concussions, fractures, a fever of 100 or higher, strep infection, fifth disease, pneumonia, flu, conjunctivitis, or any other infection where your child is taking antibiotics or medication.  This will allow her to alert classrooms with high numbers of certain illnesses.  Please call Mrs. Prew at 508-384-5435 or email at prewk@wrentham.k12.ma.us.  Thank you for your continued cooperation!

Thank you for reading this week's blog.  Have an awesome weekend!

Stephen S. Grenham, Principal
