April 4, 2014

Hello Roderick Community,

Conference schedules will be arriving home soon.  Please crosscheck the date and time and respond back as soon as possible. Thank you!

Thank you to the parents who attended our Internet Safety meeting on Tuesday evening.  Mrs. Fox and Miss Kost provided a lot of great information as well as resources.  If you would like a copy of the PowerPoint that Mrs. Fox and Miss Kost used during their presentation, please email Mrs. Fox.

Yesterday, students in Miss Yelle's class worked to decompose improper fractions and mixed numbers in various ways. They came together in a group to discuss the different ways you can decompose a fraction. The students were asked to create a visual representation of the fraction as well as number sentence to show two different ways to decompose one fraction. The students did a great job working as a team to create a poster to demonstrate their knowledge of how to decompose a fraction.

Congratulations to our Team Hjort!!  These talented students placed 3rd at the State Tournament last Saturday!  We are all very proud of these students!

On Tuesday, I was invited to hand out participation certificates to the DI members.  We are so proud of all of them.  Way to go!

On Wednesday, our students attended a rally to kick off the
JDRFKids Walk program.  This program is an educational fundraising program with two goals:
  • educate students about type 1 and type 2 diabetes and the importance of a healthy lifestyle,
  • provide them with an opportunity to make a difference by raising money for diabetes.
We believe this program will help foster an environment of positive character building and community service in our school.  Please contact Roderick School nurse, Karen Prew with any questions.

Some of our very own students got up to speak.  Very impressive!!!!

Our school participated in Red Sox Spirit Day today.  Take a look....

Today, the fourth grade classes celebrated the opening day of baseball season with their annual sunflower seed spitting contest. Each class entered their top three spitters into the final round! Congratulations to our winner: Alex K from Mrs. Kelley's class! Play Ball!

Mrs. Moon's class spent time this week using edible treats to model math equations.  The students "ate up"  this lesson!

Congratulations to this week's Positive Referral. These students were hard-working, helpful, and diligent.  We are very proud of them!  Thanks for making our school a better place!

Congratulations to all of our students who participated in our Reading Across Wrentham program this year.  The winning classrooms are pictured below.  In grade 4, Mrs. Kelley's class, in grade 5, Mrs. McGee's class, and grade 6, Miss White's class.  Students in these three classrooms will receive a $5 book fair certificate donated by the PTO.  Thank you to Mrs. Munn, Mrs. Ritch, Mrs. Murphy, and Mrs. Weiblen for overseeing this year's program!
