September 5, 2014 - Week 1

Welcome Back Roderick Families:

We had a wonderful first week of school!  The students all settled in to their new classrooms, and have adjusted terrifically!  We know it is going to be a great year!

Please remember that Roderick School Open House has been scheduled for Wednesday, September 17th.  Grade 4 is scheduled from 6 PM - 7 PM, Grade 6 is from 6:30 PM - 7:30 PM, and Grade 5 is from 7 PM - 8 PM.  We hope you can make it.

I would like to take this opportunity to introduce some new faces to the Roderick School staff this year.

Dr. Allan Cameron - Superintendent of Schools

Ms. Karen Arnold - School Library Teacher

Mrs. Julie Cashman - School Nurse

Mrs. Hana McGowan - Math Specialist

Officer Steve Hearon - School Resource Officer

Again this year, the Roderick School will have a Student Council.  The objective of this group will be to talk with their classmates about concerns/initiatives in their classroom and/or the school.  The Student Council will consist of one student from each homeroom in Grades 5 and 6.  Students interested in serving on the Student Council must write a one paragraph letter of interest.  This letter of interest was distributed today and must be received by the close of school on September 19th.  The Student Council will meet on the first Wednesday of each month for about 40 minutes at about 1:00 PM.  I would like to thank Mrs. Moon who has volunteered to work with me on the Roderick School Council.

Cafeteria Make-Over

Thank you to the members of the 2013 - 2014 PTO for spearheading the redesign of the Roderick cafeteria.  The cafeteria was repainted during the summer months and there is new signage posted on the walls.  Special thanks to past PTO president, Alisa West for all of her hard work.

As a reminder, all assignments for our Summer Reading Olympics are due back on Friday, September 12th.  If you need any information regarding our school's summer reading program, please visit http://www.wrentham.k12.ma.us/C7/C9/Summer%20Reading/default.aspx.

We are presently looking for individuals who would like to volunteer to serve on the Roderick School School Council.  Meetings will be held once a month immediately following school dismissal at 3 p.m.  This year, meetings will be held on the second Tuesday of the month and will rotate between the Delaney and Roderick Schools.  Please contact the Roderick office (508) 384 - 5435 if you are interested.

Medications:
If your child requires medication (ex: Inhaler, EpiPen) to be kept at school, please be sure to get it to Mrs. Cashman as soon as possible.  All medications must be accompanied by a parental consent form and a signed medication order from the physician.  Medication orders need to be renewed at the start of each school year.  Blank medication forms can be found on the school website, under ‘Health Services’ or obtained from Mrs. Cashman in the Health Office.

Parents of Grade 4 students:
4th grade physical forms are due.  Please remember to turn in your child’s form to Mrs. Cashman in the nurse’s office.  Physical forms must be dated 3/1/14 or later.  Thank you to those who have already passed them in!

Some of Mrs. Haughey's students get ready to set sail on a great sixth grade year!
