April 10, 2015 - Week 30

Greetings Roderick Families,

I hope that you all had a wonderful week.  We certainly did!

In the Technology Lab with Mrs. Fox, our 6^th graders were using Microsoft Excel to predict and chart how many Skittles of each color are in a small bag.  Great job!

Mrs. Marazzi’s class and Mrs. Kelley’s class created bottle terrariums to observe the Water Cycle in action.  Students observed water collection, evaporation, condensation, transpiration, and precipitation as part of their Weather Science Unit.

Congratulations to this week's Positive Referrals!  Thank you for making our school such a great place! 

It is great to see the kids out on the recess fields again!!!!!

Monday is Red Sox spirit Day!  Please wear your Red Sox attire or red, white, and blue.  If your allegiance is with another team, feel free to come to school with that team's attire. 

Mrs. Kane’s 5^th Grade Class dissected owl pellets this week.  They examined the remains of an owl’s meal, to learn about how owls are related to other organisms in their ecosystem.

Parent-Teacher conferences are scheduled for next week on Tuesday, April 14th (afternoon) and Thursday, April 16th (evening).  The Wrentham Public Schools believe one of the best means of establishing effective home – school relationships is the parent – teacher conference.  During the spring conference, parents are encouraged to discuss their child’s progress for the current school year.  We suggest and encourage parents to inquire about what learning style and what learning environment best suits their child.  While we do recognize that many parents may be tempted to discuss specific placements during their conference, please understand that staff members will not discuss individual teachers.  Our staff looks forward to discussing your child’s educational experiences over the past school year.


On a visit to Mrs. Moon's sixth grade class, I viewed an awesome activity.  Students worked in groups to rank order survival items during a survival simulation.  The activity was linked to the Newbery award-winning book, Hatchet by Gary Paulsen which the students had just completed.

April 3, 2015 - Week 29

Hello Roderick Families!

MCAS testing has finished (minus two make-ups) for the students at the Roderick School. Your children were patient and disciplined in sustaining the structure of the standardized testing environment, and most importantly, they persevered through the days of MCAS testing.  I am so proud of all of our students.  Thank you for all that you do from home to create such respectful and engaging children, and most importantly, thank you for sharing them with us every day.

On Tuesday, I was invited to hand out participation certificates to the DI members.  We are so proud of all of them.  Way to go!

Miss Yelle's fourth graders used their math skills today to solve the mystery: Case of the Rotten Eggs.  

Thanks to Dan, Shawn, Sean, and Colin from Ms. Downing's Grade 5 class for sharing their awesome math projects with me.  Incredible job!!!!

Last night the students in our ACT program presented a stunning performance of "Xanadu."  I am so proud of these students!  Their performance was incredible!!!

Congratulations to this week's Positive Referral. These students were hard-working, helpful, and diligent.  We are very proud of them!  Thanks for making our school a better place!

Mrs. Clutterbuck’s class and Miss Downing’s class reviewed improper and mixed numbers through hunting for eggs! Students had to find correct matches in order to receive “springy” treats, such as candy and homework passes!

Ms. O'Connell's fifth grade class recently finished literature circles for the books Peak, About Average, and Hatchet. Check out some of the projects these amazing kids did following the completion of these novels.  

Together with our nurses, we are excited to present a very special assembly about food allergies on April 15th. This food allergy awareness assembly has been made possible by the generous support of our own PTO! We are very grateful for their support.

Kyle Dine- An educator and musician who performs at schools across North America raising food allergy awareness. Kyle Dine has grown up managing his own allergies to peanuts, tree nuts, eggs, seafood, and mustard. His songs empower, support, and educate children of all ages. We are very excited to host Kyle Dine and hope your child enjoys his musical performance. March 27, 2015 - Week 28

Greetings Roderick Families!

Good Luck Mr. Moon!

On behalf of the Wrentham Public Schools' students and staff, we would like to wish Physical Education teacher, Mr. Moon, the best of luck tonight as he competes in Dancing with the Wrentham Stars.  Mr. Moon has been training diligently and working extremely hard to raise money for this event.  Thank you to all who contributed to and supported this great cause.

Good luck to our DI teams: Team Hepburn, Team Cahoon & Mooney, and Team McFarlane, Mellman, & Sansoucy participating in Destination Imagination State Tournament this weekend at WPI. Thank you to all of our volunteer coaches!  Go Wildcats!!!!!!

It was great to get a chance to see the Chess Club this week.  There were some great matches going on.  

On a visit to Mrs. Curtin's classroom this week I saw some incredible designs of land form projects.  Great work!

Thank you to this Wrentham DI team for their very kind note.  We are so proud of them and all of the students in DI.  Go Wildcats!!!!!!

*Today, a Principals' Coffee was held in the Vogel Auditorium to discuss the student placement process for the 2015-2016 school year.  We would like to thank the many people who were able to join us.  If you were unable to attend, please visit the school website to view the presentation or click here for direct access.

* A group of 16 Roderick staff members have been participating in a professional book group each month since October.  The group is reading, discussing and taking part in activities surrounding the book, Mindset by Carol Dweck.


*Parent/Teacher conferences are quickly approaching.  Students will be released at noon time on April 14th and 16th.  Afternoon conferences will take place from 12:00-3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 14th and evening conferences will occur on Thursday, April 16th from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m.

*There will be a half day of school (noon dismissal) on Friday, April 3rd.

*Our fourth graders showed great effort completing their MCAS long composition and first part of their MCAS reading comprehension this week and our fifth graders worked equally as hard completing their MCAS testing.  Bravo boys and girls!!!!!!  

*Our last day of school is scheduled for Wednesday, June 24th.  There will be a noon dismissal on this day.
