Happy New Year! I hope that the holiday break was an enjoyable one for you and your family. Here were some of the things happening at the Roderick School this week.
The sixth grade ski club started yesterday afternoon. 76 Grade 6 students boarded two buses and headed off to Wachusett Mountain in Princeton, MA. Although it was cold, you can see that the children had a great time.
The After School Basketball program has extended its registration until Tuesday, January 8th. This program is for any girl or boy in grades 4 - 6. The program is a great time for all involved. Please contact Mark Maguire, Jodi Fownes, or Heather Fox if you have any questions or concerns.
On behalf of the students and staff at the Roderick School, I would like to thank the members of WEST for their generous funding of the Fall WEST Grants. WEST has agreed to fund 7 grants totaling $12,647. The students and staff at the Roderick School are extremely grateful for your continued support.
Our sixth graders are once again participating in the D.A.R.E. program. D.A.R.E. is a national program that educates adolescents about making healthy and wise decisions as they navigate through some very impressionable years. We are lucky to have Sergeant Jeffry Smith of the Wrentham Police Department working with our sixth graders. Special thanks to Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Jeff Marsden and Police Chief, Jim Anderson for making this program a priority.
The Roderick School has been awarded the Healthier US School Challenge Award (HUSSC) by the USDA. Our school was recognized for our commitment to excellence in nutrition and promoting a healthier school environment for our children. It is a wonderful accomplishment for our Food Service Department, our students, and our district (The Delaney School was also awarded a HUSSC award).
- The Wrentham Public Schools' School Council will meet on Wednesday, January 9th at 3:00 PM in the Roderick office.
- The Advanced Band Winter Concert will take place on Wednesday, January 9th at 7:00 PM in the Gibbons Gymnasium.
- Our next Principals' Coffee will be on Friday, January 18th at 8:30 AM in the Vogel Auditorium. We will present an overview of our new Reading Street reading program.
