On Wednesday evening, our sixth grade students celebrated their DARE graduation. This was a very exciting night as it was the culmination of a very important program. Special thanks to Master of Ceremonies, Wrentham Police Sergeant Jeffrey Smith for running a fantastic program. Please click here to learn more about the DARE program.
Congratulations to our Positive Referral recipient this week. This student was recognized for being supportive and helpful. We are very proud of her.
Today our school had the great privilege of re-dedicating the O'Connell Wing at the Roderick School. Mr. Robert O'Connell was Superintendent of the Wrentham Public Schools from 1970 - 1993. Superintendent O'Connell was a dedicated educator, a champion for the children of Wrentham, and a true gentleman. We were thrilled to have many of Mr. O'Connell's family on hand to celebrate the re-dedication. Special thanks to Wrentham School Committee Chairman Ed Goddard and Superintendent of Schools Dr. Jeff Marsden for organizing this wonderful event.
Grade 5 spent some time recently visiting one of the vernal pools in the town. Special thanks to our PTO who generously funded the buses for the trips and WEST for providing the funds for the vernal pool materials.
Throughout the week, Grade 6 classes visited the Christa McAuliffe Center at Framingham State University. Using the concept of simulation as an instructional tool, the Challenger Center program created an exciting, cooperative learning environment for students of Wrentham to better understand the challenges of teamwork, problem-solving, communication, and decision making. Every crew member (student) was assigned to, and trained for, a specific
role. They took their positions in either Mars Control or the Spacecraft and
assumed control of an exciting two hour mission simulation to Mars.
Parents of Grade 4 students: The
results of the state-mandated BMI screening will be mailed home in the upcoming
weeks. We encourage you to share the results with your child’s health care
provider. Your child’s doctor or nurse is in the best position to
evaluate his or her overall health and can explain the results of his or her
BMI screening. Please note that we are required
to report our data to the Massachusetts State Department of Health for the
annual BMI survey. However, only summary information is sent. No names and no
information about individual students are sent. Please contact School Nurse, Mrs. Prew at 508.384.5435 if you have any questions.
As a reminder, pickup for Yankee Candle took place this week. If you did not have a chance to pick up your candles, please contact wrenthampto@gmail.com.
On behalf of all of the employees at the Roderick School, I would like to wish all of the mothers a Happy Mother's Day.
As always, thank you for taking the time to read the Roderick School Blog.
Best,
Stephen S. Grenham, Principal
