Roderick Review (Week 21) 1/23/17-1/27/17

Roderick Review (Week 21)   1/23/17-1/27/17

WINTER CHORUS CONCERT!
January 25, 2017!

Mrs. Danielson directs AND accompanies the Roderick School Chorus!
Students announced the different songs.

Some songs were performed a cappella as well.

Students in grades 4-6 are invited to sign up for the Spring Chorus now!  Rehearsals start next week, if your Roderick student is interested in signing up, please check your email for the Chorus Sign-up Link!  (We are limited to 40 students so be sure to sign up soon!)

GRADE 4...

Logging on to Kahoot to check for understanding.

Students get immediate feedback to see what the correct answer was and teachers get immediate
feedback to let them know what the students know already and what may need to be clarified.

As students complete their research about their famous landmarks, they create slides to be able
to present the information they have learned to others.

 STUDENT-DESIGNED LUNCHES!
Thanks to Mrs. Crowley and her student volunteers, students are given a voice to share what lunches they enjoy eating and they also give suggestions for other lunch ideas.  The lunch served on Thursday, January 26th was one that was designed by students last year as a result of the committee and Mrs. Crowley met with the committee members to see how it went and to get additional ideas for future lunch planning.

FIFTH GRADE

Students check their thinking (and their accuracy) by using a second method to check their work.  While the standard algorithm can help them to calculate the answer quickly, using partial products, the area model, and expanded form can help students to check their work while keeping the value of the numbers intact.
 SIXTH GRADE

Students used Google Drawing to create replicas of the terracotta warriors.

Students also used StoryboardThat in Technology class to create a short scene giving advice about the Internet to others identifying all the benefits and cautioning others about the dangers as well.  This allowed for students to convey their understanding of the Internet safety lessons they have been learning in a creative way.
