Although the number of school days are dwindling, there was certainly a lot going on here at the Roderick School this past week. Please take a few minutes to check out the wonderful things that took place this week.
Grade 6 will celebrate their graduation on Wednesday, June 19th at 12:30 PM in the Delaney courtyard. If the weather does not cooperate, we will have the ceremony in the Gibbons gymnasium.
The weather finally cooperated on Monday morning so the students could enjoy this year's Field Day. The weather was great and the children had a lot of fun. Special thanks to Mr. Moon and Mr. Maguire for organizing such a wonderful day. Additionally, thanks to all of the teachers and paraprofessionals for overseeing all of the events.
Mrs. Hall’s class performed a Fabulous Fluency Fable
Show. All year they have been working to become fluent readers.
During the year the class learned about good phrasing, rate, intonation, and
accuracy. They also learned that that fluency is the bridge to
comprehension. The plays presented were all based on Aesop’s Fables.
Grade 6 had their Spelling Bee this week. Congratulations to our three finalists. Second runner-up, Ryan, 2013 school champion, Patrick, and first runner-up, Kyle! Way to go!
This week the Roderick School had a "Principal for the Day." Abigail from Mrs. Kane's room won this S.W.I.S.H. raffle last week. Abigail assisted me in conducting the daily business of the school. She made an EXCELLENT Principal!
Congratulations to this week's Positive Referrals! These students were recognized for showing great character. We are very proud of each of you! Thanks for making the Roderick School a great place!
Earlier this week, our school held its second annual Summer Reading Olympics - Read to the Finish Line opening ceremony. We celebrated the accomplishments from last year and shared our excitement for this year. All Summer Reading Olympics - Read to the Finish Line materials will be sent home in your child's report card on the last day of school. Additionally, all Summer Reading Olympics - Read to the Finish Line materials will be posted on our website on July 1st.
The fifth graders had a wonderful time on their field trip to the
Duck Tours this week. Thanks to all of the parents who took time to chaperone.
After
weeks of hard work and creativity, students in Miss Marazzi’s classroom created
their own cereal boxes that incorporated several concepts they have learned in
Math and ELA this year. The students used geometry, measurement, fractions,
addition, multiplication, and persuasive writing skills to create their box.
Some even produced their own commercial to persuade their customers to buy
their cereal. They did a fantastic job!
Move-up day will be held on Thursday, June 20th. Children
will spend 15 minutes in their new teacher's classroom, get a chance to meet
their new classmates, and hear a little about what's to come in
September.
Thursday, June 20th is the last day of school. Students will be dismissed at 12:00 p.m. On behalf of the entire Roderick School staff, I would like to wish you and your family a safe and happy summer vacation!
Thank you for reading this week's blog. Have an awesome weekend!
Respectfully,
Stephen S. Grenham, Principal
