Special thanks to Dr. Neville and members of last year's and this year's after school knitting club: Alexa, Brooke, Sammy, Maddy, Rachel, Kathryn, Angelina, Izabella, and Katie. These students knitted this beautiful blanket and hat and they will be donated to Children's Hospital.
Great job, ladies!
Thank you to everyone who supported the annual S.W.I.S.H. (Students With Illness Score Help) basketball game last evening. Although the score did not end up in our favor, we were all winners because of the efforts made by the Wrentham community. Special thanks to event organizer, Mrs. Moon. Additionally, all of us at the Wrentham Public Schools would like to thank Chief Anderson and members of the Wrentham Police Department for participating in the game.
5th Grade trips to the Vernal Pools this week....
Special thanks to Grade 5 teacher, Ms. Phipps for contributing this information for the blog....
I never thought I would say this, but thank goodness
for all of that winter snow because it bought us an extended hydroperiod making
today’s visit possible. Vernal pools are unique ecosystems in that they briefly
exist, bursting forth full of life each spring, and then quietly recede back
into the forest. They are places of wonder because just below the surface
exists creatures that are unlike any others. When we visit these pools we are
the explorers entering new territory and the task falls to us to find,
identify, and wonder at these creatures, whose lives are dictated by the coming
and going of water. We ask questions and seek answers and the knowledge becomes
ours. Wonder…it is powerful thing.
This week's sightings: Green frog, bull frog, wood frog, leopard
frog, wood frog tadpoles, American toad tadpoles, predaceous diving beetle
larvae, caddisfly larvae in their “log cabins”, damselfly nymphs, dragonfly
nymphs, dragonflies, mosquito larvae, water striders, an ostracod, daphnia,
chironomid midges, Baltimore orioles, cardinals, red-wing blackbird,
chickadees, spiders, ants, caterpillars (inch worms and gypsy moth
caterpillars)
A Camp Bournedale informational meeting for fifth grade parents has been scheduled for Wednesday, June 3rd at 5:45 PM in the Roderick School library.
Today, Danielle and Averie (both in Mrs. Kelley's class) arrived to the Roderick in style. These students won a WEST backpack auction and were driven to school by the Wrentham Fire Department. Great stuff!
On Thursday, Mr. Arsenault acted as a DJ and played some great tunes during the fourth grade lunch period. This special treat was a result of Grade 4 wining the PTO's box tops contest. Congratulations Grade 4!!!
Please come and join us for our final Principals' Coffee on Friday, June 5th in the Vogel Auditorium. Superintendent Dr. Allan Cameron will be presenting the budget forecast for the 2015 -2016 school year. The meeting will begin at 8:30 AM. Please feel free to bring younger children if you are stuck for daycare.
Enjoy the start of June, and as always, thanks for reading the Roderick School Blog.
Best,
Stephen S. Grenham, Principal
