Destination Imagination Update -
Our Grade 4 group "The Nuggets" had taken on a service project within our community to raise awareness about bullying. Did you know that according to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services that "One in three U.S. students say they have been bullied" at school? * Our DI group, "The Nuggets" took it upon themselves to create a campaign to stop bullying. The students crafted a script to read in each fourth, fifth, and sixth grade class and asked the students to share an anti- bullying contract that they had created with their parents. They also scheduled a special spirit day on Friday, January 29, 2016 as a day to wear blue (the anti-bullying color). Here are a few examples:
They also came up with an incentive so that each class who returned ALL of the contracts would be awarded a special prize. To honor the way in which this effort was fostering a positive community, the six winning classes, 4Kelley, 5Downing, 5Kane, 5O'Toole, 6DeTrolio, and 6Cederbaum will each be awarded a twenty-minute extra recess where students are able to enjoy one another and perhaps invite someone to join their group that they have not had the privilege of playing with before.
