Due to the snow days last Friday and this past Monday, we seemed to be able to pack six days of learning in our short four-day week! Check out the pictures below!
Tuesday, February 9th
Mock Mummification (Cleopatra visited Roderick as well!)
There are pictures of other Ancient Egypt projects on Twitter. Look for @RoderickSchool or scroll through the feed on the home page of our website!
National Geographic Bee Finalists were honored at the School Committee Meeting on Tuesday evening!
Wednesday, February 10th
Student Council - Our Student Council representatives visited the Leadership Team (Dr. Cameron, Dr. Beauchaine, Mrs. Wagstaff, Mrs. Dykstra, Mr. Ahern, Mrs. Gilbert, and Mrs. McNamara) in Dr. Cameron's office to propose an all-school event...
The great news is that they have gotten approval to plan the finer details for our first annual All-School Pep Rally with students PreK through Grade 6 in June! Way to go, Student Council!
Beginning Band Concert!
Bravi Tutti! Our beginning band students performed on Wednesday evening and presented a fine balance of solo, duet, and ensemble pieces before a PACKED audience in the Gibbons Gym. In addition, a number of our musicians were selected for the honors band as well! Congratulations to all!
Thursday, February 11th
On Thursday morning, Mrs. Dykstra, our Director for Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment, presented information for parents about the teaching of writing and the structure of Writers Workshop during the Principal Coffee. Mrs. Wagstaff also modeled her own narrative that she shared with Delaney classes. There were two second grade writers who proudly shared their published pieces with the group as well!
If you are interested, the Powerpoint presentation is also on our website! Take a look!
Fifth Grade Explorers - (Ms. Downing's Class) Can you guess which student is which explorer?
Friday, February 12th
The grade 4 wing of Roderick School was transformed into a large gallery where students shared what they had learned about the animal they had researched. Each fourth grade classroom represented a continent or the oceans and student presenters were stationed with their projects to inform visitors (parents, siblings, and staff) about their animal.
On Friday, you could feel the love in advance of Valentine's Day! Last Friday, February 5th was Wear Red Day to raise awareness for CHD - Congenital Heart Defect. (One in 100 babies are born with a CHD.) Due to the snow day on the 5th, we wore our red on the 12th instead.
