Hello Roderick Community,

We had another busy week here at the Roderick School.  The students and the teachers have been working incredibly hard throughout the weeks that we have been in school.  Please take a few minutes to see some of the great things from this week.

MCAS 2013 parent letters were mailed out today.  Please be on the lookout for these mailings which will include ELA & Math scores for students in grade 3-6 who took the MCAS last year.

This afternoon our school got together to celebrate the closing ceremony of our Summer Reading Olympics reading program.  As it is in the Olympics, our students came together to celebrate the reading that took place over the summer and recognize the great efforts made by the students.  I am thrilled to announce that 97% of the students in the Roderick School fully participated and completed the program requirements of the Summer Reading Program!  This is an increase of 4% from last year!  Thank you to all who participated! We look forward to having even more readers join us next summer.

Math Coach, Dr. John Ribeiro has been visiting classrooms and displaying math lessons for students.  In the photo above, Dr. Ribeiro is working with Miss Downing's fifth grade class.

This past weekend fifth grader, Lauren and her Dad took the socks and t-shirts, donated at the Roderick School last spring, to the distribution center. They dropped off and helped pack 20 large boxes that will be sent to various places in Afghanistan. Below is a photo of Lauren and Andi Edwards (President and founder of the Give2TheTroops organization).  Special thanks to current fifth graders Lauren, Elizabeth, Angie, and Lindsey for organizing this thoughtful fundraiser.  Additionally, thank you to all of the families who helped make this a success!

Thank you to members of Miss Maloney's Grade 6 class for volunteering in the Roderick Courtyard on Wednesday.  Students spent time after school weeding, raking, and straightening up the courtyard.  It looks much better!

Our school will host Grandparent's/Special Person's day on Thursday, October 17, 2013.  Buses will be available beginning at 8:30 AM from Luciano’s at Lake Pearl Park to the Delaney/ Roderick School bus circle.  Grandparents/Special People are welcome to visit classrooms between 9:30 AM and 10:30 AM.  We ask that all guests sign in with a PTO volunteer before moving throughout the buildings.  Buses will return visitors to Luciano’s at Lake Pearl Park starting at 10:30 AM.  Although there will be volunteers to assist on this day, it will be helpful for guests to know their school designation and child’s teacher’s name before arriving at the school. We hope that you can join us on this very special day.

 PTO Reminder

The PTO has had great response so far to the fall fundraiser, but need more payments or books returned!  If you have not returned payment for the KidStuff book, please do so by Wednesday, October 2.  If you do not wish to purchase, please return book by this date as well. Please send in $25 payment per book in the Money Collection envelope provided.  Checks can be made payable to Wrentham PTO.  Please make sure your child’s name is on the envelope.  E-mail wrenthampto@gmail.com with any questions.

Dear Roderick Families:

I hope the families of the Roderick School enjoyed themselves as much as our staff did during last night's Open House night.  I hope everyone had a chance to visit the whole school and had the opportunity to look at the curriculum materials being used at our school.  It was a pleasure to see so many parents.  Thank you for making the effort to attend Open House!

Congratulations to this week's Positive Referrals.  These students exhibited responsibility and helpfulness to their classes and the school.  We are very proud of you!  Keep up the great work!

In Mrs. Farrell's and Ms. Mager's fourth grade classroom, students were practicing their fluency doing “Fabulous Fluency."  Students had the chance to read, graph results, and receive constructive feedback.  Great job!

This week a KidStuff Coupon Book was sent home with one child per family.  If you wish to purchase the book, please return $25 in the envelope provided.  If you do not wish to purchase, please have your child return the book to their classroom teacher.  Our PTO earns at least 50% or more profit from the sale of these books.  Use just a few coupons and save more than the cost of the book! This is the PTO's main fundraiser this Fall!  Thank you for your support! E-mail wrenthampto@gmail.com with questions.

The PTO will have its first meeting of the year on Tuesday, September 24th from 8:30 am-9:00 am in the Delaney conference room.  Please stop in for coffee and donuts.
