THANKFUL HEARTS
FROM CARING KIDS!

On Wednesday, November 23rd, the fourth graders participated in the second annual Thankful Hearts from Caring Kids project.  Thanks to the generous donations from the students and their families, we gathered together as a fourth grade community with students, teachers, staff, and families to celebrate Thanksgiving through poem presentations and song performances.  The event culminated in the assembly of care packages to send to those currently serving in the military to thank them for all they do to protect and preserved our freedom.  Enjoy the pictures below at various phases of this phenomenal event!  Thank you to all who participated!  We even had a special guest visit us as well to celebrate how the students were demonstrating our core values!

Important Upcoming Dates:
* Wednesday, November 30th - Early Dismissal (12:00 p.m.) for Afternoon Conferences
* Thursday, December 1st - Early Dismissal (12:00 p.m.) for Evening Conferences

Making the Most of Parent -Teacher Conferences...
Before the conference, review student work that comes home, jot down any questions or concerns that you have, and also check in with your child to see if s/he has any questions as well.
At the conference, share the questions or concerns that you or your child have, listen for your child's strengths, and for what skills and concepts they are working on next as they work towards grade level benchmarks.
After the conference, share what you learned with your child.  It is a powerful, supportive message when students see that their parents and teachers are working in concert with one another to help them to continue to learn and grow.  If you have other questions after the conference, do feel free to reach out.  We value ongoing two-way communication between home and school and want to hear from you if you have questions.

WRENTHAM FOOD PANTRY...
Just a reminder that we are collecting items for the Wrentham Food pantry in the lobbies at both schools.  You may drop items off at any time.  Thank you for your support!

Roderick Review (Week 12) 11/14/16-11/18/16

Roderick Review (Week 12) 11/14/16-11/18/16

Grade 4 Writing Tools - Students are working on incorporating transitional phrases into their writing to convey the passage of time in their narrative pieces.

Mrs. Coleman is using her "lenses" to demonstrate how students can reread their writing through different lenses as they continue to review and revise their work.

Sixth graders are presenting summaries of the articles they have read from reliable sources such as "Newsela" and "National Geographic" just to name a few.  Some of the articles shared provoked a great discussion between and among students after the articles were presented.  Great thinking, sixth graders!

Ms. Downing's "engineering" group presented what they had learned about the Mayan civilization to their peers and discussed the different hierarchy in the Mayan culture, their symbols for writing, and much more!

In just two days, Ms. Downing's "dramatic" group put together a script and play for their ancient civilization project!  Outstanding work, conveying the realities of the various conquests with this live performance!

Mrs. Moon's sixth graders have used their powers of persuasion to create these "Saving the Rain Forests" projects to be judged next Tuesday!  Impressive!

Election Day - Professional Development Day
On November 8, 2016, while residents in Wrentham were busy voting on Election Day, Wrentham educators were hard at work continuously growing and learning in a variety of sessions catered to their individual roles.  Some continued to work Writers Workshop, reviewing and discussion the common math assessments, learning more about the Continuum for Literacy Learning, a resource to assist teachers in planning ELA lessons, among other focus areas.  All of the learning that our educators take part in during the professional development days has a direct impact on your children; as we continually refine our craft, we are able to provide optimal learning opportunities for Wrentham students.

Congratulations to Student Council!
In less than one week's time, our fourteen 5th and 6th grade representatives, created the idea to have a special spirit day for Breast Cancer Awareness month in October.  Thanks to their efforts to organize this campaign, they raised over $500.00 for the Ellie Fund!  Thank you to all those who donated and to all those who wore their pink!

You will be hearing more about upcoming Spirit Days in the coming months that will be sponsored by the Student Council.

Some of this week's events in pictures...

Grade 5 students were learning more about the Aztec...

....Mayan, and Incan cultures through some experiential centers!

Sixth graders in Mrs. Moon's class created globe pumpkins and there were FIVE winners for the most accurate.  By using a variety of references including different maps and globes, these students did an outstanding job!

In Honor of Veterans Day and Military Family Month
Thank you to all of our Wrentham veterans who courageously served our country in times of conflict and in times of peace!

UPCOMING GRADE 4 EVENT...
In just a few weeks, we will be celebrating Thanksgiving as a nation.  Our grade four students, for the second year in a row, will be a part of a service project to create care packages for those that are actively serving in the military to express their thanks to those that are serving our country to protect our freedom.  Stay tuned to learn more!
