Roderick Review Week 26 (3/7/16-3/11/16)

Grade 5 students are working hard on their informational writing!  On Thursday, students in Mrs. Kane's and Mrs. Bevilacqua's classes joined together to provide feedback on their second draft.  Most students were working with a partner who had researched the same explorer and they were looking to add in specific geographical information, transitional words and phrases, using "time" as an organizational tool where some created a timeline to go along with their writing.  Students also checked to see if they had answered the larger questions.

Roderick Review Week 25 (2/29/16-3/4/16)

Literacy Night - A Booming Success!

This past week has been quite a week of celebration!  It was great to see so many families from Delaney and Roderick enjoy their visits to the Book Fair organized by the PTO to find new favorite authors and also enjoying the events at Literacy Night on March 2nd, Dr. Seuss Day!

Dr. Seuss stories are going to leap from the page and onto the stage in April with the ACT production of Seussical!  On Wednesday, students helped to create some of the scenery, including the truffula trees from The Lorax.

I was lucky enough to be in charge of one of the literacy stations where I had the chance to see the students in action building words with letter tiles while others were challenged to play Boggle.  Some brave souls took on their principal to see just how many words we could create in three minutes.  The record was 33!

Be sure to check out our others photos from Literacy Night on the home page of the website!

PTO/Scholastic Book Fair!

During the day, teachers and students were dressed as literary characters including Cindy-Lou Who and The Cat-in-the-Hat pictured below.

Special thanks to all of our Book Fair organizers!  Students were so excited to visit the book fair and thanks to the students' Read Across Wrentham incentive program, some students ever earned a gift certificate to spend at the Book Fair to further encourage their life-long love for reading!

Our fearless leader, Dr. Cameron, made a special visit to Literacy Night in costume as well!
