May 22, 2015 - Week 35

Greetings Roderick Families!

Today our school had our Memorial Day assembly. The students did a remarkable job.  Each grade level presented a song or poem, the Advanced Band played the Star Spangled Banner, Grade 6 students Courtney (6 White) and Haley (6 White) recited the Gettysburg Address, and Sean (Ms. O'Connell's class) and Joe (Mrs. Clutterbuck's class) played Taps.  All of the Roderick students were terrific!

Thank you to the PTO and all of the volunteers who treated the Wrentham Public Schools' staff to a delicious staff appreciation luncheon today.  It was absolutely delicious and we can't thank you enough for your generosity.

On Monday, we held our first ever Walk AT School day.  The students and staff had a fantastic time. Special thanks to Mr. Mike McGuire for supplying the great music and Chief Anderson and our fantastic police department for participating in the walk.

Our fifth graders rocked the house on Thursday night as they performed When I Grow Up…” for the Grade 5 Gym Show.  The routines, the music, and the props were all truly amazing!  Congratulations to all of our fifth graders and physical education teachers Mr. Moon and Mr. Maguire for their spectacular performance.

This week Miss Downing's grade 5 class spent some time in literature circles.  The students were having rich discussions about the novel Poppy.

The students enjoyed visiting the spring Scholastic Book Fair throughout the week. A big THANKS to Mrs. Munn, the entire Book Fair Committee, and the many other parent volunteers who helped to make the spring Book Fair a great success.

Today, students in Miss Yelle's fourth grade class spent time classifying polygons.  These students are so talented!!!

Congratulations to Grade 6 teacher, Mrs. Moon for winning  the 2015 Chamber of Commerce Massachusetts Teacher of the Year!!!!  Mrs. Moon was recognized this week by the United Regional Chamber of Commerce.

Special thanks to Mrs. Gresham, Mrs. Kelley, and fourth grade students: Emerson, Olivia, Claire, Danielle, Brayden, Alice, and Averie for taking time this week to clean up the Roderick courtyard.  It looks so much better!

Please come and join us for our final Principals' Coffee on Friday, June 5th in the Vogel Auditorium.  Superintendent Dr. Allan Cameron will be presenting the budget forecast for the 2015 -2016 school year.  The meeting will begin at 8:30 AM.  Please feel free to bring younger children if you are stuck for daycare.

Thank you for taking the time to read this week's blog.

Best wishes for a great Memorial Day weekend!

Stephen S. Grenham, Principal
