Roderick Review 4/24/17-4/28/17

This Week at Roderick

Guess Who's Coming to Roderick on Monday....

BRANDON MULL!  It is not too late to order your autographed copy of the book!
Take a look at what Roderick students have been up to this week!

Mrs. Farrell's class tried out a new spider web greeting after April vacation and the students then did a "whip share" to each share one event from their vacation.

Our budding artists are learning drawing and cartooning skills!

Dr. Ribeiro and Mrs. Bevilacqua facilitate the learning for her students who are discovering a hierarchy of four-sided polygons.

Mrs. Moon's mathematicians are using ratios  to reflect the amounts of different objects within their mystery bags.
Fourth Graders Celebrate Arbor Day!

Wrentham's Tree Warden, Ray Rose, taught our fourth graders about the best way to plant trees so that they have the right amount of space and proper planting depth so they can breathe.
He is pointing to where the natural flare is and reminds students that mulch should not go above that point to help the tree live a long life.

Each fourth grader helped to add a little soil to finish planting the fourth grade tree!

This Fourth Grade "sweet gum" tree is located in the front of the Annex and will be there for you to visit for the next 50-70 years!

Our good friend, Ron Klough, shared the history of Arbor Day with the students and had a few trivia questions to ask.  Many students knew the answers to what products come from trees and how trees benefit us by providing shade, shelter, and oxygen, among many other benefits.  Can you name a deciduous conifer?  (Your fourth grader may know the answer!)
Dave Donahue, an arborist who works for National Grid, came to talk to the fourth graders about safety around trees near wires.
Thank you, National Grid, for donating a white lilac sapling for each and every fourth grader to take home to plant in their yard!.
